Wow, Santa Clara is all about the excitement!!

So, the story starts with a simple trip to Safeway. We decided to grab some bits for dinner for Wednesday night, so that we didn’t have to go food shopping on my birthday and the plan was for Jasper to cook for me. We picked all the bits we needed and then Jasper told me to go and wait in the car because he needed to get me a card and didn’t want me to see. So I took the car keys and left him at the checkouts, as I started to walk out of the building, I suddenly heard this rumbling noise behind me. At first I thought it was someone pushing a stack of trolleys along, then I realised it was way too loud for that, I suddenly felt a bit strange, as if I was going weak at the knees. I carried on walking to the car and then heard a guy shout ‘Dude, I’ve never been in an earthquake before, that was amazing’. It wasn’t until that moment that I realised what was going on. I sat in the car waiting for Jasper, and there was then an after shock and the car started wobbling from side to side. It was really weird and felt totally disconcerting.

At the same time as I was walking to the car, Jasper was still stood at the tills and the rumbling that I heard was in fact the whole of Safeway creaking and swaying with the movement of the earth. Things were falling off shelves, the staff ran from there tills and left the customers stood there under the precarious light fixtures which were swaying a meter or so each way! Jasper was really freaked out and didn’t know what to do, as soon as someone carried on at the tills, he quickly paid and ran back to the car.

Jasper said it was the scariest moment of his life. And that’s saying something, I mean he married me you know! ;)

Thankfully although it was of 5.6 magnitude and one of the biggest earthquakes in the world this year, I didn’t have such a scary experience because I was outside.

The only concern now is that, this may just be the lead up to something bigger, and there could in fact be a scarier quake on the way.

Still none the less, althoguh slightly shaken, there was no major damage and we have our fingers crossed that their won’t be another one whilst we are here.

So that was that! More excitement from the world of Fi coming soon! ;)

Love ya
