Ok, so I know I am nearly 25, and technically my first day at school was over 2 decades ago. But in fact I got myself a new job! Yay!!!

I am working as a voluntary Library Assistant at a school in Santa Clara.

I basically assist the librarian with checking the kids books in and out, putting books back on shelves, re-covering books etc.

I had a good chat with the librarian and with a mum of one of the kids at the school who also volunteers.

I also met a lad called Zack who helps out in the library during certain lessons, who was incredibly sweet, and a very impressive young man.

I was generally really impressed with the school, it’s resources and the kids. It felt very odd to me to be amongst such young children, as I haven’t been since I was their age!

The children are aged between 4 and 12 and all seem like nicely brought up kids.

There was one girl who is 7, who amused the hell out of me today. She plonked her books down in front of me and said

“I’d like to check these out, they really caught my interest”

I couldn’t believe how astute this 7 year old was, she went on to explain that the books on the immune system, the liver and the human skeleton were

“research, because daddy wants me to be a doctor when I grow up”

absolutely brilliant! What an amazing little girl.

Anyway, I have lots of revision to do over the next fortnight as I have my exam on 15th, but I will try and go in to school as much as I can to help out. Once we are back from our UK trip I will attempt to help out at least 3 days a week. Between volunteering and studying for my psychology course I think I should be able to keep myself suitably occupied until we move back to the UK in April.

Love ya
