Trip to Canada

Other than the whole house stuff which seems to have dominated our lives for the past 3 months we have both been pretty busy. Jasper was working so so hard on the lead up to JavaOne 2010 on demos which went down really well. He even got a round of applause in the middle of the keynote, which is a first. Well done Mr Potts!

As well as Jasper working loads I have been studying lots too. I submitted my ECA for SD226 on 5th October – the result of which should be out mid December. I also started a new course at the beginning of October DD305, it’s my first level 3 course and thankfully my penultimate OU course before I get awarded my degree. I am taking my 3 hour exam for ED209 next week at San Jose University and once that is out of the way can concentrate solely on DD305 until next year.

Once JavaOne was over Jasper and I went to the Now and Zen Fest with Jonathan, Joe and Annie. We saw some good acts including the Plain White T’s who were fab.

Then a week later we flew off to Toronto. We met up with Justine at the airport and then had dinner with their aunt Shari at her place in downtown Toronto. The following morning we drove to Meaford and stayed with Brian and Louise for a couple of nights, it was so lovely to see all the fall colours on the trees and we were really lucky with the weather. We made friends with Chippo (a chipmunk that Brian and Louise have been feeding peanuts) and ate some fab roast beef and meatballs. On the Friday we drove to Port Stanley and dropped our bags off at our cottage. We laid Jay’s ashes in St Thomas that afternoon in his mothers grave, so that we could fulfill his wish of having half in the Dorset and half in Ontario. It was very sad but lovely that Jasper, Justine, Brian and Shari could be there together to do it and it was such a gorgeous day, warm and sunny. In fact the whole weekend that followed was full of good food, good family time and Jay would have loved it. We missed him a lot. The cottage we stayed in was fab, very shabby chic and beachy. It had a huge deck out the front which was sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon – perfect! We had access to a private beach which was fab to go and sit at the firepit and watch sunset. Ontario has some really beautiful places, I’ll look forward to returning for a happier occasion in the future.

So fingers crossed on the house, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer and should be in for our first Christmas back in the US.

Now time to study, study, study!
